About this route

The Otto du Plessis road runs 37 km from the top of the Swartberg Pass into the isolated Gamkaskloof valley, descending via the hairpins of Elands Pass, and takes up to three hours one-way. The valley holds 11 restored historical cottages and campsites managed by CapeNature. Floods in May 2026 cut the road; repairs were still under way in July 2026.
